Petros Farms operates a 45,000-capacity poultry layer farm and produces more than 30,000 fresh eggs every day, supplying both distributors and premium outlets such as hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants.
Petros Farms stands out for its focus on antibiotic-free egg production, sustainable farming practices powered by 90% solar energy, and its role in community revitalization through the Village of Murals initiative.
The farm runs 90% on solar energy, generating over 82,000 kWh annually, which avoids burning nearly 50,000 liters of diesel fuel. Organic waste is composted into fertilizer, and real-time monitoring is used to optimize resources.
Petros Farms has collaborated with trusted industry leaders including Animal Care Services Konsult, Agricare STD Plus Ltd, Marketsquare, and Priceless Supermarket to strengthen operations and distribution.

Petros Farms believes antibiotic-free eggs are the future of safe food and healthier communities in Nigeria. By leading the production of antibiotic-free eggs, Petros Farms is promoting safer eggs for Nigerian families
Despite volatile feed prices, disease risks, and power challenges, Petros Farms has stayed resilient by producing its own feed, investing in renewable energy, and prioritizing strong biosecurity systems.
Challenges such as high feed costs, unreliable electricity, weak record-keeping, and frequent disease outbreaks have forced nearly half of poultry farms in Nigeria to shut down. Petros Farms overcame these hurdles by adopting strict biosecurity, mixing its own feed, using renewable energy, and focusing on data-driven decision making.
At Petros Farms, we’re proud to be among the first to pilot Aviarai—a groundbreaking poultry intelligence platform developed by an African poultry farmer, for African poultry farmers. For too long, Africa has lacked a system built on its own data—Aviarai is changing that

Yes. Poultry egg farming is one of the most profitable agribusiness ventures in Nigeria due to high demand for eggs. With proper management, farmers can achieve strong returns despite feed and energy costs.
At Petros Farms, we recommend ISA Brown Layers, one of the best brown laying hens in the world. They are known for their high egg-laying potential and resilience in Nigerian conditions. Choosing the right poultry breed for maximum productivity in Africa’s climate is important. Learn more in our Ultimate Guide to Poultry Farming in Africa.
Start small by investing in quality point-of-lay hens, good housing, and reliable feed. Prioritize management and biosecurity. Expansion can follow once you achieve consistent egg production. Learn more about the business of poultry farming.
Feed is critical because it accounts for up to 70% of total poultry production costs in Nigeria. High-quality, balanced feed is directly correlated to the number and quality of eggs a hen will lay. For a practical example, watch our YouTube video on how we test our feed.
We feed hens twice daily: 30% of feed in the morning and 70% in the evening. This ensures proper digestion and maximizes egg output. To learn more, read How To Maximize Egg Production With 4 Feeding Techniques.
Farmers can reduce costs by:
Automation reduces labor costs and increases efficiency. Tools like automated feeders, egg collectors, and climate sensors streamline operations. Petros Farms uses semi-automated feeding carts while still creating jobs by hand-picking eggs.
Key challenges include high feed costs, volatile energy prices, unreliable electricity, heat stress, and disease outbreaks. Farmers must adopt resilience strategies to remain profitable.
Rising temperatures and unpredictable weather increase heat stress, which lowers egg production and raises mortality rates. Climate-smart housing, ventilation, and cooling systems are now essential. See how climate in different African countries affect egg production.
Install circulation fans, foggers, and thermostats to regulate temperature. Petros Farms uses poultry circulation fans powered by renewable energy to maintain bird comfort and productivity. For detailed guide, read: How To Defeat Heat Stress In Your Poultry Farm.
Renewable energy reduces reliance on diesel, cuts long-term costs, and provides consistent power for fans, lighting, and water systems. Petros Farms runs 90% on solar energy.
Good staff training, strict biosecurity, and breed-specific management protocols are essential. At Petros Farms, the secret to productivity lies in our team culture as much as feed or water. If you want to increase egg production, read How To Make Your Chickens Lay More Eggs
A well-managed farm of 45,000 birds can produce over 30,000 fresh eggs daily, supplying distributors, hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants.
